How Are Powdered Metal Parts Made?

P/M parts are produced by pressing powdered metals and alloys in a rigid die under extreme pressure (up to 60,000 psi). Those compacted parts are then sintered in a controlled-atmosphere furnace at temperatures to 2050° F (1120° C ) to bond the particles metallurgically.

PSP can produce shapes ranging from simple, uniformly dimensioned parts to more complex multi-level parts. Design details such as holes, tapers, fillets, chamfers, flanges, hubs and studs are often found in PSP manufactured parts.

We specialize in multi-level parts and can produce parts with footprints of up to 6.5 in.2 (42.3cm2). Our manufacturing process produces parts with consistent dimensions and allows maintenance of tolerances as close as 0.001 in. (0.025mm).
