How Are Powdered Metal Parts Made?
P/M parts are produced by pressing powdered metals and alloys in a rigid die under extreme pressure (up to 60,000 psi). Those compacted parts are then sintered in a controlled-atmosphere furnace at temperatures to 2050° F (1120° C ) to bond the particles metallurgically.
PSP can produce shapes ranging from simple, uniformly dimensioned parts to more complex multi-level parts. Design details such as holes, tapers, fillets, chamfers, flanges, hubs and studs are often found in PSP manufactured parts. |
